Hi, I'm Amanda
Amanda Mortenson, MFTI
Pre-Licensed Professional, MFTI
I'm a Marriage & Family Therapist Intern, wife, and mom to four kids who knows firsthand what it feels like to be busy, burnt out, and quietly disconnected from the person you love most. That experience is part of why I do this work.
Alongside my clinical work, I facilitate Building Lasting Connections seminars for couples and groups. More about my story →
Who I Work With
I work with couples, individuals, and adults who feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in painful patterns they can't seem to break on their own.
Maybe you're having the same fight on repeat. Maybe the distance between you has grown so quietly you can't point to when it started. Maybe something happened that broke trust, and you don't know how to come back from it. Maybe you're carrying anxiety, grief, or old trauma that's starting to affect everything else.

My Approach
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
A science-based, gold-standard approach for couples that works with the emotions underneath conflict, not just the surface argument.
Most couples don't actually fight about dishes or money or schedules. Underneath the argument is a quieter question: Are you there for me? Do I matter to you? EFT works at that level — helping you understand the emotions driving the conflict so you can stop the cycle instead of just managing it.
I bring a practical, heart-first style to that work, and I welcome faith-based perspectives if that's part of your life.
What to Expect
A free 15-minute consultation
You call or send a message. We talk briefly about what's going on and what you're hoping for. No cost, no pressure, no commitment — this is just to see whether I'm the right fit for you.
Your first session
We slow down and get the full picture: your history, your patterns, and what you want to be different. For couples, I want to hear from both of you.
The actual work
We identify the cycle you're stuck in and start interrupting it. You'll leave sessions with things to try, not just things to think about.
Credentials & Supervision
Pre-Licensed Professional, MFTI — practicing under supervision
Amanda is a Marriage & Family Therapist Intern completing her clinical internship, which means she works under the direct supervision of Dr. Debi Gilmore, an EFT expert and certified EFT supervisor (Utah license 8520440-3902).
In practice, that means you get two clinicians thinking about your case: Amanda in the room with you, and an experienced supervisor reviewing the work behind the scenes.

Common Questions
What does it mean that you're pre-licensed?
I'm a Marriage & Family Therapist Intern completing my clinical internship, so I practice under the supervision of Dr. Debi Gilmore, an EFT expert and certified EFT supervisor. Every case I take is reviewed with her, which means you effectively get two clinicians on your situation.
My spouse doesn't want to come. Can I still start?
Yes. Plenty of people start individually, and meaningful change in a relationship can begin with one person. If your partner decides to join later, that's welcome.
How long does this take?
It depends on what you're working through. EFT is structured rather than open-ended, so we'll talk about what a realistic timeline looks like for you early on rather than leaving it vague.
Is this faith-based?
It can be. I welcome faith as part of the conversation when it matters to you, and I don't push it when it doesn't.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for us?
That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. Ask me anything, and if I'm not the right fit I'll say so and try to point you somewhere better.
